A Legend Called Shatterhand

The brainchild of Amazon Kindle Number One bestselling western writers Mike Stotter and Ben Bridges, PICCADILLY PUBLISHING is dedicated to reissuing new and classic fiction from Yesterday and Today! A LEGEND CALLED SHATTERHAND Responsible for the upkeep of law and order throughout the whole of Montana territory, the Second Cavalry had its meager forces stretched to the limit. The Sioux were riding north and raiding Crow camps near Rosebud Creek. Over the border the British needed horses for their new mounted police force and were offering $100 a bronc, an incentive for any two-bit rustler who could handle a rope and didn’t mind how many folks he shot up, red or white. Worse, hard cases learned there was a large consignment of Army pay, poorly guarded at Fort Shaw. It was into this powder keg that a tall mysterious frontiersman strode. The man had the bearing of someone who had made a name for himself a long, long time ago. And indeed he had. For this was old Shatterhand. A brand new challenge awaited one of the most famous characters in the whole of western literature. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Leaving school early with few qualifications, Bryan Holmes went to work in a factory and then, in his own words, “got cheesed off, jacked it all in and went to university.” Upon graduating he went to work teaching economics in a College of Advanced Technology and stayed in the profession for the rest of his working career. Bryan started writing seriously in the 1950s, but it was only in the mid-1970s that he turned to the western. “The odd thing is I’d never read a western until I’d written my first. Of course, I’ve read many since – either to see how others do it or to read the books of writer-friends – but I originally fell into the genre quite by accident.” After The Avenging Four was accepted for publication, Bryan never looked back. In addition to a steady stream of accomplished westerns, he also began to sell short horror, crime and SF stories in the fields of science fic

Sourced from official court records, with these true stories, author James Rodney unmask ways Federal Judges legalize overt racial harassment with favorable rulings to blatantly bigoted corporate defenses such as “They only called him nigger a few times,” i.e, Watson et al v. CEVA Logistics, chapter three. In Corporate America & The N-Word the author provides a detailed analysis of eight federal cases, beginning with the facts as alleged by plaintiffs; followed with defenses proffered by corporations e.g, Whirlpool, and issues of law decided by the court. His “…narrative voice is very familiar and easy to follow.” (Lisa B. Outskirts Press)Two mass workplace shootings are discussed in chapter nine: Lockheed Martin from 2003 and Hartford Distributors Inc, of 2010. Both were preceded with claims of racial harassment, allegedly ignored by the employers. Fourteen co-workers were murdered and ten wounded. “I recall putting my kindle down out of deep sadness and anger. It absolutely touches on something deep and dark…it’s a necessary read.”(N. Rodriguez)James Rodney concludes his book with chapter ten “A call to Advocacy.” Premised upon “making tolerance of discrimination more costly than eliminating it,” he directly challenges four groups of Americans: To the “Youth of America,” launch a “stop pimping me” social media campaign. Target athletes and entertainers “making it rain” off your money but not speaking up on your behalf. To “Progressive White Americans,” stop allowing bigots to define your culture and thus degrade Americas’ moral standing around the world. Expose and oppose racist for who they truly are. To “Conservative Working Class White Americans,” love your family more than you hate others. Vote against politicians with sly appeals to racial pride who govern against your interest. To “Political leaders,” James Rodney offers fifteen concrete changes in employment discrimination law to “make tolerance of discrimination more costly than eliminating it.”Corporate A

Kindle Publishing: The # 1 Killer Formatting Secret

If you intend using Microsoft Word to prepare your document this is for you. Now here’s the thing. Word is actually a single computer program. But it is a very complex program with hundreds and hundreds of options and their possible combinations. And what are most of us authors? We probably haven’t had special Word training. No, what we do is to open Word and start typing. Sure we correct errors in spelling and syntax but basically we just default to whatever the current settings are. If you print the page out it looks great, so why shouldn’t it go onto Kindle just like that? In my case the Word document was set up in block format (in which the first word of a paragraph is not indented) and it introduced an extra line after each paragraph and it looked terrible on Kindle…too much white space between paragraphs. Search as I did I could not find an answer anywhere of how to suppress this additional spacing. At this stage I had produced about 12 titles on Kindle. I have had to go back and laboriously delete every additional superfluous line, and then republish the documents. In this short article I am going to give you the #1 secret to perfect formatting on Kindle for a Word document. You can buy a 100 page book or you can solve this issue in the next minute or two. If only I could have bought this article when I started! It’s taken me 10 months to find this out, but that’s maybe because I’m stupid. And what’s more I’ve waded through several books on formatting and never got a 100% answer to this. Well here it is and it’s all you’ll ever really need and it’s all set out in 1000 words. It is Word 2003 specific but the entered values are equally relevant to Word 2007 except that the click sequencing is a bit different.[Article - 1148 words]

The Moonstone (Special Edition)

The Moonstone (Special Edition)

‘The Moonstone’ was described by T.S. Eliot as ‘the first and greatest of English detective novels.’ Published in 1868, it is one of the two books (with ‘The Woman in White’) for which Collins is most famous. Several incidents in the story are taken from the real life Constance Kent Road Case and the plot is Collins at his diabolical best. ‘The Moonstone’ was immensely successful when it was serialized in the Charles Dickens magazine All the Year Round in 1868. Many of ‘The Moonstone’s elements have since become classic features of the detective novel: the eventual conviction of the least-likely suspect; a bungling investigation led by local police and taken over by a more perceptive, slightly eccentric detective, the idea of a ‘mcguffin’ or object (in this case a diamond) that everyone wants and around which the plot pivots – to name but a few of the classic tropes first seen here. The story begins with a brief prologue describing how the eponymous diamond was captured during a military campaign in India by a British officer in 1799. The action moves quickly to 1848 England, where, according to the British officer’s will, the diamond has been given to one of the soldier’s young relatives, Rachel Verinder. Rachel wears the stone to her birthday party, but that night it disappears from her room. Was it stolen by a relative? A servant? And who are these three Indian men who keep hanging around the estate? The intriguing and absorbing plot is told from the point of view of multiple characters – fracturing the narrative in a structure with built in suspense and a style that would be much imitated by later novelists. This complete unabridged edition includes original illustrations from the rare late-Victorian book ‘Magic’ by Albert A. Hopkins specially formatted for the Kindle. *Active Table of Contents. *Perfect formatting in rich text. *A low, can’t-say-no price!
