Out of these disasters, fire is one catastrophe, which has had a lasting effect on the economy and social aspect of an affected area, down the centuries. Fire disasters can be local, or they can be national. The great fire of 1666, destroyed a major part of London. Many ancient civilizations also talk about fires which destroyed cities, towns, and even countries. Most of them were man-made, especially the aftermath of war, or civil disturbances. Others came in the wake of natural disasters like earthquakes, typhoons and tsunamis.”A burnt child dreads the fire” is an age old idiom. Down the ages, human beings taught their children, that though fire was a necessary part and parcel of their day to day fabric, it was the thing to be created with care. While it provided light and warmth, it could also provide death and instruction, when it was not kept under control. This is the reason why fire along with other natural agencies was worshiped as a god, in all the ancient civilizations all over the world. It had to be fed sacrifices in ancient times, and the God of fire placated to leave human beings alone, and not visit his wrath upon them, their families and their properties. An ancient Roman prayer went something like this to the g

During a burglary in Kensington, Faith decides to let two of the most different men meet each other: Anthony Percival-Davis, gentleman and son of an Earl, meets Simon, a simple thief from lower London. Will they be able to see beyond the social boundaries? And will they be able to resist their mutual attraction? An extract from the story:”I felt that my face was flustered and my lips felt uncommonly tender after his kisses and his short stubble. It was useless to resist my desire for him any longer; I was drawn to him helplessly, like a moth is drawn to the open flame and its doom.”Touch me,” he said suddenly with a thick voice and he took my wrist in his hand and guided my hand towards his manhood. The coarse layer of his worn trousers could not hide his waiting erection. I admit I was a little bit shocked at first to touch him like this, but my fingers could not help themselves, curiously they investigated this newfound territory. I stroked his hardness, while I watched him closely to see how he would react. I saw him close his eyes and sigh with satisfaction, as he moved gently against my touch in a rhythmical fashion.”Keywords: Burglary, innocence, curse, longing, oral pleasure, M/M.About the author: Lady T.L. A Green Light: Book 1: The Kingdom of Children

A Green Light: Book 1: The Kingdom of Children

$9.99

In Book 1 of A GREEN LIGHT: THE KINGDOM OF CHILDREN crime writer, playwright and screenwriter, Ray Mooney, masterfully explores the development of an ordinary boy into a cold-blooded killer. Johnny Morgan is born into a suburban working class catholic family where he matures, on the one hand, within the strict regime of Catholicism and on the other, within a knockabout world where brute force and cunning are the preferred means of dealing with authority and survival. The result is a value system of never dob anyone in, a misunderstanding and arrogance of sexual knowledge, and a yearning to be thought of as the best. Morgan discovers there is a natural order of balance within society, and that forces of disorder, such as himself, are soon brought to task; that certain individuals are given an unofficial green light to have their way with him. He learns he can withdraw their green light by disrupting the natural order. Morgan excels in street-wise cunning, a larrikin delinquent, torn between the feral and the ordinary human being. The story is based on the author’s personal experiences, and those of his close friend, Chris Flannery, aka Mr Rent-A-Kill, Australia’s infamous hitman, missing, believed murdered. The Kingdom of Children is approximately 58,000 words and is specifically formatted for Kindle, with an interactive table of contents. The series has been developed from Mooney’s highly successful book, A Green Light, published by Penguin, Australia, in 1988, which became Penguin’s second biggest fiction seller for that year and established an industry of crime fiction within Australia. Praise for Ray Mooney’s crime thriller A GREEN LIGHT. A haggard youth knelt before a little furnace, kindling a fire, with an expression of quiet desperation on his face, which made the simple operation strange and solemn.A pile of manuscript lay beside him, and in the hollow eyes that watched the white leaves burn was a tragic shadow, terrible to see-for he was offering the first-born of heart and brain as sacrifice to a hard fate. Slowly the charcoal caught and kindled, while a light smoke filled the room. Slowly the youth staggered up, and, gathering the torn sheets, thrust them into his bosom, muttering bitterly, “Of all my hopes and dreams, my weary work and patient waiting, nothing is left but this. Poor little book, we’ll go together, and leave no trace behind.”Throwing himself into a chair, he laid his head down upon the table, where no food had been for days, and, closing his eyes, waited in stern silence for death to come and take him. Nothing broke the stillness but the soft crackle of the fire, which began to flicker with blue tongues of flame, and cast a lurid glow upon the motionless figure with its hidden face. Deeper grew the wintry gloom without, ruddier shone the fateful gleam within, and heavy breaths began to heave the breast so tired of life.

Hello again and welcome to my second book on spiritual visitors. This book I have called “A Walk on Spirit Street” because that is where we are about to take our journey, a walk alongside the dead.I am a medium and have been for around 25 years. I see hear and talk to the dead. It is a gift I treasure and always will. My gift was given to me about 25 years ago and I have enjoyed every day since. This is not a book of horror or stories of monsters from other planets. This is a book of short true stories of visitors from the spirit world that have happened to me and others like me. It tells of spirits that visit us from the other side for pure fun, loved ones who want to pass on a message after their death, also scary spirits who want to cause alarm or upset and spirits that just do not want to leave this earth. There are also visions and pictures of the strangest things that are hard to explain. It also tells of dreams and their meanings, nature’s weird things and a lot more exciting reading. All of the stories I have written are true to the best of my knowledge, any pictures of spirits are real and have not been doctored in any way. I have enlarged the pictures in this book to make it easier to view on the smaller kindles. My third book “Ashes to Ashes and Back” should be out towards the end of 2016. It is only thanks to the people who bought my first book that I was able to carry on and write my second and third book. Love and Light to you allEnjoy and sleep well’spooks

Aids To Scouting

Aids To Scouting

$1.99

In 1899 while serving in the 2nd Boer War, Robert Baden-Powell penned his sixth military book, Aids To Scouting. It was a non-typical training manual filled with personal stories of intrigue and even games. Its goal was to encourage the development of light reconnaissance scouting skills within the British Army. The book was well received by various armies of its time, including the French Army. His successful defense of Mafeking (1899-1900) in South Africa made Baden-Powell a well-known national hero in Britain. But what completely surprised Baden-Powell was that his book was eagerly taken up by teachers and youth groups to help organize outdoor activities and sport. He eventually embraced the idea of adapting his work into a new youth-oriented book, Scouting for Boys (1908) which went on to sell approx. 150 million copies to date. It was that follow-on book that firmly launched the international Boy Scouts movement. Aids to Scouting contains sections on the characters of a scout, as well as practical advice on observation, stealth/camouflage, map reading, sketching, tracking, reporting and care of horses. It presents these topics is a simple conversational style that makes it easy to read, and is illustrated with personal anecdotes of military adventures by the author. It gives scholars clear insights into his mindset and beliefs that served him well in the siege of Mafeking and shows a clear lineage to the formation of the tenets of his formation of the Boy Scouts. Anyone interested in the history of Boy Scouting will definitely want to read this interesting and formative book. (NOTE – Appendix C contents is missing in this Kindle version – but we hope to update the ebook with it once a suitable facsimile can be referenced).

Part historical evocation, part travelogue, and part personal quest, An Unexpected Light is the account of Elliot’s journey through Afghanistan, a country considered off-limits to travelers for twenty years. Aware of the risks involved, but determined to explore what he could of the Afghan people and culture, Elliot leaves the relative security of Kabul. He travels by foot and on horseback, and hitches rides on trucks that eventually lead him into the snowbound mountains of the North toward Uzbekistan, the former battlefields of the Soviet army’s “hidden war.” Here the Afghan landscape kindles a recollection of the author’s life ten years earlier, when he fought with the anti-Soviet mujaheddin resistance during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Weaving different Afghan times and visits with revealing insights on matters ranging from antipersonnel mines to Sufism, Elliot has created a narrative mosaic of startling prose that captures perfectly the powerful allure of a seldom-glimpsed world. Jason Elliot’s An Unexpected Light is a remarkable, poignant book about Afghanistan and a heartfelt reflection on the experience of travel itself.

There is one name,” says Elbert Hubbard, “that stands out in history like a beacon light after all these twenty-five hundred years have passed, just because the man had the sublime genius of discovering ability. That man is Pericles. Pericles made Athens and to-day the very dust of the street of Athens is being sifted and searched for relics and remnants of the things made by people who were captained by men of ability who were discovered by Pericles.” The remark of Andrew Carnegie that he won his success because he had the knack of picking the right men has become a classic in current speech. Augustus Caesar built up and extended the power of the Roman Empire because he knew men. The careers of Charlemagne, Napoleon, Disraeli, Washington, Lincoln, and all the empire builders and empire saviours hold their places in history because these men knew how to recognize, how to select, and how to develop to the highest degree the abilities of their co-workers. The great editors, Greeley, Dana, James Gordon Bennett, McClure, Gilder and Curtis, attained their high station in the world of letters largely because of their ability to unearth men of genius. Morgan, Rockefeller, Theodore N. Vail, James J. Hill, and Other builders of industrial and commercial empires laid strong their foundations by almost infallible wisdom in the selection of lieutenants. Even in the world of sports the names of Connie Mack, McGraw, Chance, Moran, Carrigan and Stallings shine chiefly because of their keen judgment of human nature. If the glory that was Greece shone forth because Pericles kindled its flame, then Pericles in any time and amongst any people would probably have ushered in a Golden Age. Had Carnegie lived in any Other day and sought his industrial giants, he would no doubt have found them. If a supreme judge of latent talent and inspirer of high achievement can thus always find material ready to his hand, it follows that humanity is rich in undiscovered genius-that, in the race, ther
